Literally stayed up until 2 am to finish it. My Thoughts: I got to the end of reading this and was left thinking what did I just read and what actually happened. It’s a story of falling in love, loss, grief, and what life there is in the deep deep sea.

I actually got tears in my eyes at the end! Tore through this one in one sitting. Our Wives Under The Sea is the debut novel from Julia Armfield, the critically acclaimed author of salt slow. I have discovered I LOVE WEIRD STORIES that work! This was just so well done and at it's heart it is a love story and a story about loss. But you do get glimpses of what happened down there at the bottom of the sea during that six months and it becomes increasingly more and more creepy as told from Leah in an opposing timeline (oldest to newest.) And it is a very clever way to tell this story - one wife telling it in real time, working backwards and the other slowly giving you pieces of what happened six months ago and moving forward until the two timelines converge in a fairly unexpected result.

It's primarily told from the perspective of the wife, Miri, after her partner, Leah returns from a work disaster where her submarine dropped to the bottom of the sea floor without power and did not resurface for six months. 4.5 stars for this thoroughly entertaining but equally weird story about a married lesbian couple struggling to stay together after an unnatural and tragic event that separated them for six months.
